Description: After reading The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, students will create their own artwork inspired by the story’s message about creativity and confidence. Using paint and mixed materials, students began with a single dot made with a coffee filter and explored the Elements of Design by adding color, line, and texture with a white crayon. After adding all the white crayon students will watercolor the coffee filter and their secret image will show up.
Extension Activity: Students will reflect on their artwork by identifying at least three elements of design they used (such as color, line, shape, or texture). They will explain how starting with one dot helped them create a unique piece of art. Then will write a short sentence explaining how their artwork shows creativity and confidence inspired by The Dot.
